Kitesurfing in Nin

Nin is probably the Croatian spot riders from this region mention most often, and the reason is simple: a shallow lagoon with flat water. Where the water reaches your waist, learning and drilling new tricks happen without the price you otherwise pay in waves.

Why it suits learning

Flat water means predictable starts and soft crashes. Shallow water means you can stand up at any moment and recover the kite without panic. That combination is why Nin is full of schools and beginners — and also why it gets busy on good days.

What to watch out for

Shallow water has a second side: respect the bottom. Fins and inserts take damage quickly in sand, so many riders use smaller fins or carry spares (fins and screws). Crowds demand more attention than at home: right-of-way rules are the only thing between fun and a collision.

Which gear

With flat water the board is not critical — any freeride board works, and a bigger one helps you plane earlier in lighter wind. Choose the kite from the weight and wind table; the summer maestral is often moderate, so the bigger kite sees more use.

In summer a wetsuit is mostly unnecessary — lycra or 2 mm is enough. In May and September bring a 3/2 mm.
