Kitesurfing in Viganj

Viganj on Pelješac has a reputation among sailors and kiters built on one thing: a reliable afternoon maestral, a thermal wind that builds through summer days and usually eases towards evening. That predictability is why the place has been a meeting point for the wind scene for decades.

What to expect on the water

The water is deeper than in Nin, which means independence is expected: water start, riding upwind and handling the kite in the water. For riders who already have that, deeper water is friendlier for jumping and softer for landings.

Which gear

The maestral is often moderate to moderately strong, so the two-size rule applies here too — see the weight and wind table. With deeper water and frequent small chop, boards with a little more rocker work well; the differences are explained in the board guide.

Because the day starts calm and ends windy, many people also pack a light poncho — after an afternoon session the wind on wet skin is cold even in August.
