Kites

A kite on its own is not a setup. It goes with a bar and lines (matched to the kite) and a board, plus a harness on you. For safety we recommend a helmet and an impact vest, and in an Adriatic summer a lycra or a thin wetsuit.

One to start with — the size that covers the most common wind at your spot. A second kite (about 3 m² apart) is the next purchase that adds the most: together they cover the large majority of days in a season.

A single-strut kite is lighter, relaunches faster from the water and is friendlier to learn on — which is why beginner models often look like that. Three struts give a stiffer frame: the kite holds its shape better in strong wind and is more predictable when jumping.

For a first kite one strut is plenty; once you start jumping you will notice the difference.
